What I do: I look after the North American market for Italian companies in the home sector, for many years as a branch manager and recently as a consultant.
Years of experience in the industry: I have 32 years of experience in this field
Your main talent: The ability to create a cultural and commercial link between two apparently very similar but actually extremely different realities such as Italy and America.
Territories I represent and explore for work: United States and Canada
Kilometres travelled annually: Impossible to say, in North America one is forever living in a plane. And then it would be miles, not kilometres
The most beautiful thing I have seen in a shop:
The assortment, merchandising and mood of ABC Carpet & Home in Manhattan: more than a shop, a fantastic theatre set! Hopefully, the new owners will not distort it.
Have the outlets changed over the years? And if so, how?
Very much so. The expansion of national chains and especially of e-commerce have resulted in the closing of many shops but, at the same time, have laid the foundations for a reshaping of traditional retail that has affected every aspect of the business.
Advice for shops that want to continue to grow
Not wanting to be all things to all people in North America, but focusing on an in-store formula that cannot be replicated online, made up of a unique and original atmosphere and assortment. But above all on up-to-date, experienced and supportive staff, something that can be taken for granted in the USA in particular.
